KPI Dashboard Definition Kit
Difficulty: Intermediate | Time to implement: 30 min | Saves you: ~3 hrs/week Tools: ChatGPT / Claude
This template builds the specification behind a dashboard, which is the part everyone skips. Three prompts choose the 8-12 numbers that genuinely run your business, write a precise definition for each one — formula, data source, owner, cadence, and the threshold that means "do something" — and lay out the dashboard plus the weekly ritual for reading it. It is built for owners who have tried dashboards before and watched them rot: the numbers stopped being trustworthy, two people counted "active customer" differently, and within a month nobody opened the tab.
Most dashboard projects fail on definitions, not on tooling. A number without an agreed definition is a number two people can argue about, and a number people argue about is a number nobody acts on. This kit produces the data dictionary first and the dashboard second, in that order, deliberately.
